Passion fruit (or Passiflora edulis) non-tropical fruit in Mauritius.
Known as “Grenadine” in Mauritius.
There are 2 types:
-Golden Passionfruit, bright yellow variety of passion fruit, can grow up to the size of a grapefruit, has a smooth, glossy, light and airy rind
– dark purple passion fruit (for example, in Kenya) is smaller than a lemon, with a dry, wrinkled rind at maturity.
-commonly used in desserts
-used to make juice, cocktails
-can be eaten straight as a fruit
-used to flavor yogurt in South Africa
-used in soft drinks, e.g. Schweppes Sparkling Granadilla and numerous cordial drinks.
-it lowers blood pressure
Fresh passion fruit is know to be high in vitamin A, potassium and dietary fiber
